Default Signum CDTi150 serious electrical problems.......... help!!

After having problems with the power steering fault light randomly coming on without any noticeable change to the steering, it has now turned into total failure mid-journey (on a daily basis) of the power steering, all interior and exterior illumination flickering and once or twice the exterior lights (headlights) have totally failed.
It seems everything electrical is fluctuating or flickering constantly, even the heater blower and electric windows you can hear 'chugging'.
Even weirder is that if i load the alternator by switching on the heater blower to full, it calms down the flickering, and used to stop the power steering from locking out, but now the steering just fails until i turn off the ignition and switch it back on again.
When the power steering locks out, the illumination in the drivers door window switch console starts switching on and off and i can hear a relay start clicking in the passenger footwell somewhere!?
    - it also seems to be the quicker i drive the worse the problem is.

I have been to Vauxhall, and they have tried changing the CIM, which did absolutely nothing, and apparently the steering fault codes clear everytime they reset the ecu?
They advised me that it could either be the EHPS pump (at over £1200, no way will that get changed), the steering angle sensor, and alternator at around £380, tbh i don't think they kno whats wrong with it
As it currently also needs a dual mass flywheel, you can see my concern as the costs are spiralling out of control, and strikes are looming at work

Surely if it was the EHPS pump, it just wouldn't work full stop.
If it was the alternator, surely the battery wouldn't be charging?

Can anybody help as im seriously at my wits end with the car
My ownership of my Signum, as can be seen from my previous posts, has been an absolute nightmare, and has put me off owning another vauxhall for life.

    - just to add insult to injury, the headlight bulb just blew...........

    Cheers,
    Scott.

Hi everyone, Well it would seem that I have exactly the same problem as Scott except I am stuck in another country. Don't know where to start. First battery felt as if it was dying, labouring to turn the starter. Then ABS lights came on, then the spanner light came on, the brakes were squeaking as if half on, the fans stopped working, the lights went on and off then where the spanner light shows up it changes to another light that sort of looks like a round thing with a spike pointing upwards, the battery lights came on, the power steering went off (its a very heavy car without it) ---to much to actually remember. but the kicker was after nursing it back to the hotel at some considerable risk to life and limb when, I turned off the power and the radio came on turned it off and it came on again so disconnected the battery. I am now stuck in a foreign country with quite a problem. Any idea's anyone??? All help appreciated.

Yup both could be battery, alternator, earthing problems.

Check battery terminals are clean and tightly fitted, a volt meter may show 14v but not the amperage under load.

    Also

Follow the heavy duty brown cables from the battery to the earthing points in the engine bay and the rear boot fuse box area, making sure they are tight, also check the red live cable/s are the same secure fitting on thier terminal points, starter motor, alternator etc etc. , but remove the earth from the battery first when doing so to save any accidents.

Seeing as the OP had probs back in January we will never know what fixed his problem.(I suspect it was overcharging also)

Hopefully Chilloutman2 will do us the courtesy of reporting back.

As above, it was mentioned that the 'OP' (me) never reported back, but seeing as nobody gave any help or advice until the thread was resurrected 6 months later, I didn't think anyone was interested, hence having the 'courtesy' to now wrap the thread up.
It was in fact the alternator, which was faulty and was overcharging quite considerably.
Luckily the only thing it seems to have affected strangely, is the wing mirrors, where you can now adjust the drivers side as normal, but when selecting the passenger side, it also moves the drivers side, in a different direction?!

Oh well, the alternator was changed and everything seems ok...........for now (it is a 150cdti remember, lol)

    Cheers all.

Thats actually an old Vectra secret the old wing mirror trick lol. Its for when someone else uses your car and alters the mirrors. The theory being they should only need to adjust one mirror and the other should adjust along with it and be in the right spot, if i'm making sense lol. Its totally normal mate

seems like your wing mirror issue may be default for a lhd. Might need a tech2 to make it rhd. But that's a guess though.
Glad you fixed the alternator though.
