    Default Engaging reverse gear

Hi - wonder if someone can shed some light on this, I've noticed the last couple of weeks that first thing in the morning - ie. when the cars been stood overnight my 2008 1.9 CDTi (150) refuses to go into reverse gear. Tried releasing and pressing the clutch pedal a few times, then usually engage a forward gear and try reverse again - after this is will go in but it feels pretty stiff and its more like I'm forcing it in to gear.

The cars got 23k on the clock and of late I've only been driving it at weekends, so Mon-Fri it's sat in the garage. Its never done this before and like today when it did this again after its been driven for a while it seems fine.

I'm just curious as to why its started to do this - anyone any ideas?

    Thanks - J.

Just a small update, took the car for a 50 mile drive today and once warmed up the gearbox is fine. Well its never been the slickest of things - but I'm assuming there all like this?

So I can only assume that from cold these can be troublesome? Also I've noticed that from cold when I engage 1st gear and ONLY 1st gear there is a slight "clunk" sound - tbh its done this for a while now but I've just ignored it. Again once the cars warmed up its gone - any ideas on what or why it does that as well.

    Hi julian
first job check oil level in box,if this is ok it can be a few things, gearbox input shaft not greased up,the selector slide shoe may be worn or cracked, adjustment may be out on the bowden cable/lever
