Default Lots of miles in 1 day

Yesterday was a busy day in the Signum, drove-up to Scotland from Bury, around Glasgow, Paisley, across to Whitburn, then Edinburgh, Midlothian and then back across country to Carluke and then a nice drive home. Total 600 miles. (Av 40mpg) in 14 hours driving.

Its a godsend to have a nice quiet, comfy car like a Signum for these big mileage days, no backache, tired eyes or headaches (as with the Passat). I've got to goto Lands End in a few weeks time(what a stupid place to have a customer !!!), won't be doing that in a day I can tell you.

Has anyone else done any big mileage days in their Vec/Sig recently ?

Suffolk to Dover/Calais and then on to Geneva in one day, about 1000km . Comfy at a steady 80 and stopped for a brief zzz en route. After 2 days there it was 770km to Cologne. Speed traps everywhere in Switzerland and a surprising number in Germany as well, but superb on a de-restricted autobahn.

I used to have 500 mile days in my field engineering days, but I set 400 per day as an absolute limit now.
Mind you, even 9 years ago I'd always prefer a Vauxhall for the journey, as my back preferred the seats!

    Default big miles

often do up to 1000 miles in 2days- most tiring was carlisle to leicester, basildon, and across to taunton the same evening- 550 miles

Got to hotel at 1102 pm and bar just shut.....

But I think vectra is one of the top 5 cars available for sensible money in which to do it.. beemer 5 series might have been slightly better but ££££££s!!

Usually driving ca 500-600miles/day when towing caravan from Sweden to Spain
The car is comfy, but I still find the seats too firm
(Should have bougth a SAAB 9-3 instead)

I used to have days like that in a past job. Shame I was stuck with a 1.9D Clio RN.

If I was doing that milage again, I'd be insisting on something like a Vectra. The Astra is good on long journeys, but the suspension set up I have on this one is a little....er....firm for long non-motorway journeys (although very good fun on A- and B-roads).
