strange ticking noise when accelerating?

ive got a strange ticking noise coming form then engine when accelerating?

its gets progressive ly louder as the revs go up and only happens when the car is on boost?

changed the vaccum pipes at the front so no its not that and also it doesnt effect the performance?

car is a cdti 150 with 54ooo miles

anyone come across this and tell me what to look at?

shot in the dark but sounds like a cracked exhaust manifold.

it wont sound like a blowing exhaust, it will be coming out under pressure so can sound like a ticking noise. Check the manifold and around the edges where you can on the gasket and look for signs of soot or carbon build up. However if the gasket has blown or the manifold has cracked between one of the exhaust ports then you probably wont be able to see it.. hope this helps you mate..

is the exhaust manifold at the front or back of the engine and is it easier to get to from top or botom?

where is it likely to be leaking? engine to manifold or manifold to exhaust?

the exhaust manifold is at the front of the engine, its not the easiest to see, you may need to remove the belly pan to check it underneath. Another option would be to check the car at night with a torch and see if you can see any smoke coming from the manifold area. The light from the torch will show up the slightest smoke if it is coming from there. It would be hard to say where on the manifold it could be coming from, sorry mate

would i be able to smell the exhaust fumes?

not really mate, if its only a hairline crack or a slight blown gasket you wouldnt really smell any fumes. It makes the noise i think you are hearing because the gap it is being forced through will be small..My sisters zafira gsi had the same issue, it sounded like a lifter and was louder when cold. It wasnt as loud when warm cause the manifold will expand with the heat reducing the gap further..

best i get the car up on ramps then as its still under warranty at the moment!!

if i leave it is it likely to fail?
