Hi mate i had the same prob when it came to the mot in dec with to much travel i work for gilders so i have a full team off tec,s and we found that they adjust them self and i spoke to vauxhall about it and they told me if there is to much travel its either the rear pads are worn and ready for new ones or a streched hand brake cable but trust me mate u cannot adjust them i put new pads in my,n and it worked a treat i still have a bit to much travel not as bad as it was but it needs a new cable and that will sort it but it past mot so ive not bothered mate
try new pads and bleed the system up as when u put the break,s on the rear pads clamp to the disks then u appy the hand break which locks it on so if u do change the pads make sure u pump the breaks and bleed the system then when u have appy the breaks then pull the hand break on and off a few times well about 20 times but keep ya foot flat down on the break peddle while doing it and it should be tighter if not new cable time if u did both u will be fine £10 rear pads and £15 for new cable and it comes as a kit
sorry for going on just hard to exsplain
How much labour cost would be involved? any idea?
I replaced rear discs and pads today, hard to get the hand break wire back into place. Would it be easier to do it if I ask someone to put pressure on the break pedal when I'm pulling the wire into place?
A clarification: my hand break will be too tight if I force the wire into place, can someone explain to me how to reset the handbreak?
what cable have you taken off? you dont have to remove any cable just wind back the caliper
I know, but the piston was fully extended and I just couldn't rewind it with it mounted, so I removed the caplier to be able to put some more power with the pliers. (The piston was really stuck!)
So here I am with a loose hand break cable...
did you force it back? its a rewind only I see you say rewind but was just making sure, I would remove caliper and pads reconnect cable rewind piston and refit then try to adjust handbrake in normal way : pump pedal till hard then with finger on button pull lever a few times to take the slack
I took my centre arm rest out and the whole caboodle like drinks holder aswell. i found underneath that theres a white plastic thing and a huge spring with a rod through it that you can wind up. i wound it up and hey presto it tightened it. also the self adjust mec switch looked like it had been disconnected on mine...probably vauxhall after they did my clutch!!!
