    Angry Bit P'd off.

For the past four years, My wife and me have been trying for a baby, until a year ago, when we moved to Reading, we were told by doctors there was not a problem and that losing a bit of weight would sort it out.

A year ago started going to a new doctor for a second opinion, straight away we were refered to a fertility specialist, who took us on and did several tests. It turns out that Sharon has been suffering with severe endimetriosis for at least 15 years. It is treatable, but there were risks.

We had an appointment to discuss this with the specialist at the hospital that would be doing the operation to try and remove 2 large cysts and try and remove the endimetiosis. I was supposed to be finishing work early to meet her there as I'd been at all the previous appointments. Anyhow, Sharon shouldn't be going through all this alone. I didn't make it. I was about to leave work when a phone call came through alleging I had a driver on duty who stank of booze. To cut a long story short, I had to go with a colleague to fetch him and bring the lorry back. I kept in phone contact with Sharon who said it all went fine, so I felt a bit better.

When I got home, She was on the sofa crying her heart out. It hadn't gone fine, she just didn't want me rushing home and having an accident. She had been warned the op might be OK, If the damage was too severe, she may have to lose the whole lot. She was devastated, I felt a complete *** for not being there.

The operation went OK. They weren't able to get at what they wanted, so refered us to another specialist at Oxford confident that all would work out fine. The appintment was yesterday. I already knew I wouldn't be able to make it as my depot had an audit with all the senior managers coming down, so my day off was refused.

I get to work yesterday, No one's there. It's been cancelled. I should have followed through on my threat to go there and then, If it wasn't for the fact I'd drop two of my colleagues in the you know what, I would have.

Appointment went OK, But I still should have been there. She got so worked up on the way yesterday, she got stopped by the Police for speeding. Thankfully she was let off with a warning. She was 40 minutes late for her appointment as she got hopelessly lost in Oxford. I know exactly where she was meant to be going, so could have got her there.

Sorry to ramble on, but I need to shout at someone! My frustration at work is going to boil over very soon. This is far to important. It's been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but it looks like we could be sorted soon after all.

I think it's time to change jobs though! Next time they will be told to shove it, I need to be somewhere.

I can sympathise mate.... my motto is.."family come before work" and always do

It is disgusting that your employer is not helping you and your wife through what must be a very difficult and emotional time......

It seems to me that you are a key person at your work...so go to the boss and tell them that unless you are given time off (compassionate leave) when you need it, you will have to consider your future with them......at bit drastic, but at least both of you will know where you stand......

I hope all goes well for both of you...

It sounds like you need to raise the matter with a more senior manager buddy.

My thoughts are with you and yours. I hope everything goes well for you both.

Christ mate, sorry to hear all this, I would look elsewhere for a job if you can't get time off for personal things like this.

If there's anything I can do let me know!

    Andrew..

really sorry to hear that they have been giving you and Sharon the run around..

ANY considerate employer should give time off for extenuating circumstances.. to force you to attend is unreasonable behavoiur on their part..From my standpoint, i've given employees time off for the dentist etc..I think that you needing to be with Sharon is slightly more important..

Have a word with you manager and tell him that you will have a course of appointments during working time and that you will be taking them..If they won't let you have the time off, then they're not worth working for IMO..If you give them notice of the dates you want off then there is no reason that you should be denied the time off..

Cara's and my best wishes for a successful outcome for you and Sharon

you want to kick off at someone.. you've got my number

i feel for you m8 and hope everything turns out ok for you both.

I have had a similar situation regarding work for the last 3 years or so. I was taken on to cover the North West, North Wales and West Midlands areas. This has stretched to cover the East Midlands, M1 corridor up to Leeds/York On top of that i am covering 6-8 jobs a day and 300 miles of driving. I missed a doctors appointment the other week as they wanted me do do another couple of calls on a friday evening "on the way home from Birmingham"
I eventually snapped and told them i was going home (a week last friday) I went to the doctors and have now been put on the sick with "work related stress" Not what i want to do but sometimes there is no other option.
When it comes to a choice, home and family come first !!!

P.S. I'm also looking for another job
