Default Dump valve and Boost gauge

I'm thinking about getting a boost gauge and maybe a dump valve for my 3.0 CDTI

    this is the gauge:

What is an acceptable boost level on these cars? Also what benifit would I get if I fitted a dump valve? and would I have to buy a special dump valve for my car?

    thanks.

The boost gauge should not be a problem matey, but I enquired about a dump valve and any benefit from one. I was told that you can fit one but you wouldn't see much benefit from it. You probably won't hear it either what with the noisy oil burner engine.

I think I'm right in saying that the CDTi's have a version of a dump valve, but don't quote me on that.

You will be able to fit a dump valve no problem.

Derv Doctor can supply as well as tunit. Due to the boost of diesels it is very loud too! Can easily hear over the engine. Fitted one to my mates HDi 306 90bhp and remapped it. 131bhp and 242lb-s torque

Dump valve you can turn off as well as it uses an electric solenoid for it.

Will the dump valve actually do anything beneficial?, or basically just make a noise? Curious.

People have argued about dump valves and there benefits for years.
Basically, with out going into a long winded explanation, yes, they work.
They don't make an engine any more powerful, there is no increase in torque or BHP.
But, they do allow the turbo to keep spinning, when it would normally slow down or stall, ie when you change gear and back off the throttle.
They should eliminate any turbo lag you may have, and so although the car is no more powerful, it is quicker.
Having said that, if the car, and I have heard some Vec's do, have some kind of recirculating valve fitted from the factory, then you wont see any benefit from a dump valve.
There main use is to eliminate turbo lag, if you haven't got any lag to start with, you wont gain anything.

My 2.0T definitely has a recirculating valve, not sure about the 3.0CDTi.

If the 3.0 doesn't have a recirculating valve, will a dump valve work in the same way on a diesel as a petrol - I guess it will?

Yes m8, principles the same regardless of petrol or diesel.
They do two things actually, make a noise and stop turbo lag.
If you don't want the noise and you haven't got turbo lag, I wouldn't bother.
Personally, I don't think the £280 dervdocter wants can be justified by the benefits, but each to there own.
