    Default What to use.

Been using showroom shine as a polish only, not to 'wash' the car. What would be good to use under it, as a basecoat. It's a sapphire black colour.

Showroom shine? Is that the same as instant detailer?

My understanding is that instant detailer has its place but that place is mainly for rejuvenating a previous full polish and wax. I am by no means knowledgable on this subject (I am still very much learning ) but I would think that you ought to consider trying a polish and wax or sealant, following a thorough clean of your car, naturally. Then use instant detailer to bring back the shine, assuming that the car is not too dirty, in which case another wash would be needed to prevent the dirt from scratching the paint or clearcoat.

Am I anywhere near correct, guys?

I read your post but didn't understand it. What do you mean by a base coat? Do you mean as in a washing process?
