    Default Is the Insignia better

    Than a Vectra for reliability?

Apologies if this has been beaten to death already, but after my experience with the Veccy, decided I wouldn't buy another Vectra again, but do like the lookof the Insignia.

But if its the same old power plant I assume it will still have the same issues with swirl flaps, fuel pumps etc.

Question is guys, is this the case? Is it a problematic car or what is the most reliable model/engine to get. There are some good deals on the 1.8 version which I would think is underpowered, but all I want is a reliable motor that will get me to and from my work basically.

.. and maybe PM Vectralicker as he was frustrated with his 1.8 Insignia due to lack of power and high fuel consumption

Great cars.. i love me... however it does have its faults... due to mine needing a new turbo...intercooler..and pipework... but as spoons said the fuel economy is crap... mines the 2.0cdti 160 Sri Nav and im getting 34mpg lol

Is the Insignia heavier than the Vec? Seems to happen a lot these days.

Yeah mate... Oils blocked the turbo up and the back pressure has forced oil out of the pipes and flooded the intercooler up

Mine has just hit 10,000 miles and apart from a recall for the BCM software to be changed it's been fault free. The car ( 2.0 CDTi SRI Nav) is the MY10.5 bought in June 2010.

The cars earlier than this do seem to have suffered some problems. A friend at the dealers actually told me to wait until the MY10.5 came out before going for one because of the some of the issues they were seeing with the early cars. My neighbour has an SE with the same engine on an 09 plate and that has been back three times because of scored brake discs (a known field remedy), headlamp misting up (he's just had that changed) and and another issue that was related to the radio/ipod connection.

Having said that my 06 Vectra had the EGR valve changed and the power steering pump fail all within a year of buying it so it can be pot luck.

I've not driven a 1.8 Insignia but if it's anything like the 1.8 Vectras I drove as hire cars I would imagine it's poor on fuel consumption and acceleration. I was always glad to get back in my 1.9 CDTI.

The current car does around 48 MPG with the CC off and 44 with it on. Not quite as good as my Vectra but not that far off. Overall it's a fabulous motor and the only thing I would change is the electric parking brake. It's pants and a step backwards from a manual system (IMO).

Everything else from the handling to cockpit noise and the clarity of the Bluetooth is better than my last Vectra (An SRi 1.9 CDTi Nav XP2). Then again I don't have to look at the front of it. The tyres are stupidly expensive though and when the fronts wear out I'm not sure the grip will be as good as the Contact sport 3s it's currently wearing. I'll be opting for something cheaper.
