Default SRI CDTI Blue smoke on startup

    Hi,

New to the forum, seems like on cold get a cloud of blue smoke and occassional judder at low revs, I've just purchased OP-COM and checked the car for any faults, nothing recorded which is a good thing but concerned with the blue smoke. It's seems like a slight misfire when it's juddering, I ran the special tests in OP-COM which should report values for the 4 injectors, unfortunately all the 4 values displayed were 0.00 and did not change even though I rev'd the car. I expected some deviation from the special tests so concerned why it was just displaying 0.00.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Suky

    Default Blue Smoke

    Hi,

I've had the car for a couple of years now and have never seen it blow out blue smoke at startup, I'm not an expert but my gut feeling is that something isn't quite right, espcially the judders at low revs.

    Thanks

Is there a way of finding out if I have a faulty glow plug using OP-COM as no faults are recorded when scanned using OP-COM ?

yes mate they are easy to check, remove the plug from each glow plug, run a wire from the live on your battery, touch the live on the tip of glow plug and if you get a little spark on contact the plug is fine, no spark its knackered. If you do find a knackered one, remove it, connect an earth to the glow plugs body at the top ( like where the socket goes to remove it ) and touch the tip again with the live wire, you will find its doesnt glow. I removed and checked all mine and found the knackered one was sooted up more than the rest..

The best way to check a glow plug is to remove them

See if they glow for no more than 3 seconds as you will burn them out & yes you can just replace one but then it will happen again.

Buy a set of 4x and the 120 8v is a bit of a pig to do.

i changed my faulty glow plug coming up a year ago and have had no issues and its still working fine, yes i agree replacing 4 with new is the correct way to do it but i dont see the point of throwing working ones in the bin, i will replace them as and when needed..

    Yes thats a fair point.

But id replace all 4x glow plugs as i would all 4x spark plugs and these would be working plugs too.

Shop around there not all £21.00 per plug you can get them much cheaper.
