Emmisions/engine electronics

Right lads, Got me an annoying light, engine electronics/emmisions. It will sometimes come on randomly and other times, if I floor it from 0 it will come on, after over revving. I have a 1.8 petrol. If anyone has any idea before I head to a garage, please let me know

PS I have searched through the forums, everyone else with this problem seems to have a diesel !

It could be your MAF sensor.Have you had it coded yet?,if you haven't,try and get it done before you take it to a garage cos they will have your pants down to the tune of £50-£75 quid!!.(You can buy a code reader off eBay for about £30!!).Try taking your MAF sensor off the air box and spraying contact cleaner or brake cleaner down it to give the element a good cleaning,DON'T use any greasy or oil based spray whatever you do.It sounds like it could be an intermittent air flow fault.Best of luck anyway. I have no prior experience with code readers, which ones are good? and is the one that we cannot talk about really any good ? ill give it all a go, someone suggested that the cat may be blocked ???
