will a 1.9 litre gearbox fit on a 3.0 v6....

hello all, hope some of you can shed some light on this for me.

i need to fit a new gearbox in my vectra but i cannot find one to buy! recon or second hand - and Vx want £2.5k for a new one.

so, my question is whether i can fit a f40 gearbox from a 1.9 in it.

the gearing is slightly different, but i can live with that, here are the technical specs of each of the boxes as a comparison.

ratios of a F40 on a Y30DT
1st gear - 3.77
2nd gear - 2.04
3rd gear - 1.32
4th gear - 0.95
5th gear - 0.75
6th gear - 0.62
reverse - 3.54

ratios of a F40 on a Z19DT
1st gear - 3.92
2nd gear - 2.04
3rd gear - 1.32
4th gear - 0.95
5th gear - 0.76
6th gear - 0.62
reverse - 3.75

the ratios are only slightly different in first and reverse, so no issue as far as i can see there

the output ratios are also identical for that 'box in both engines, 3.55


So, my only question is whether physically speaking the F40 box from a 1.9 will bolt onto the 3.0 litre lump i.e. are the bolts positioned in the same place, is the starter motor still at the back on the 1.9s? i've been told that it is.

any help will be greatly appreciated, as the car has been taking up a ramp for over 3 weeks now whilst i've been trying (unsuccessfully) to find a box.
