    Question K & N induction kit

    Hi there

I'm new here and i wanted to find out any additional info about the K & N induction kit i just fitted to my vec C elegance. i have fitted the kit as per instructions but wanted to know what to do next? Are there any additional steps i need to take to improve performance in terms of the air intake?

    Nice one for any help

Yes mate, you need to take it off. Your car will have less power with it fitted. Unless you have a sealed kit all you will be doing is sucking in hot air.

What Rushy said, you need either a fully enclosed cone filter with a good cold air feed or a K&N panel in the standard box. Vauxhall engines run so hot, the heat soak actually makes the performance worse with an open filter.

VAUXHALL engines run so hot,,, have I missed somthing?

all I can say is when I bought my last vec-b it had an open cone k&n filter, the car ran great, it was very quick, it was a 1.6, ( a lot quicker off the mark than my 1.8 vec-c), summer or winter never had a problem and gave good MPG, er,,,,, until I cleaned it.

It's a bit of a debate, makes you wonder why most of the big power tuned cars use open foam filters?????

Because they tend to have huge turbos and intercoolers mate. The earlyer VX's ran fine with them but the newer ones dont.

I guess the only way to prove this, right or wrong, would be with actual have rolling road figures for both. I used to run a 57i on my old cavi 130, I actually fabricated an aluminium plate to help stop heat soak. Never found any benefit with or without it tbh.

They have on the 2.2 forum mate. The panel filter proved to work better than the open filter. The old C20XE's and LET's were fine with the open filter but the modern Ecotec's just don't like them.

There's an article I read from the US where they took a Z20NET and the SC'd version and fitted a thermal gasket in between the head and intake manifold. With just the addition of the gasket there was an increase of power, only small but still there. If you think about it, the heat from the head with transfer into the manifold and in turn alter the intake temps.

Id be keen to try a cone filter on mine and do the aluminium plate to help with the heat soak, cant beat the roar from an induction kit.
