    Default Chrome boot trim removal

Ive seen lots of threads on here regarding removing the chrome boot trim to colour code it. I have just done my own and thought i would give some tips on removing it.
Firstly you need to remove the boots inner trim panel, then remove 4 x nuts which hold the strip on, 2 nuts hold the boot button fitting in place, the other 2 are on the inner boot lid just near the edge, you cant miss them.
Once the nuts are removed there are four square clips which will still be holding the trim on, dont try and pull the trim towards you to remove it as you will break the clips and bend the trim if you pull too hard. If you pull the trim towrds you a couple of mm's at one end you will be able to see the first clip. While pulling the trim a few mm's away from the boot lid at one end, slide your fingers along the bottom edge of the trim and push the trim up, as if your trying to push the trim towards the boot lip spoiler and the first clip will release. Then go to the opposite end and repeat this. Once both outer clips are free you can pull the trim a little further away from the boot towards you, do the same process with the last 2 remaing clips, dont worry you wont scratch the boot lid. When the strip is removed the clips will be left on the boot lid. If you are careful you can then open up the 4 prongs on the clips and remove them to refit if required. I have chosen to leave mine off as i feel the 4 nuts are more than enough to secure the trim and would be even easier to remove if and when required.
Hope this can help a few people out and i will take some pictues tomorrow to give people an even better idea.

    Here are the pictures -
with the crome trim removed, this is what is behind the trim on your boot lid -

The pegs on the boot lid are what the 4 clips attach to -

    Attachment 38080

At each end are the threaded clips -

    Attachment 38081

    Attachment 38082

The clips are attached to back of the trim by slotting into a lip running along the top and bottom of the rear of the trim -

    Attachment 38083

Along the bottom lip are slots which locate the clips so you dont have trouble lining them back up to refit. I decided to leave mine off as the 4 threaded clips are more than enough to hold the trim on, its a personal choice though -

The following picture will give you an idea why you lift the trim rather than pull it to remove it, it unhooks over the clips top lip to remove. The second picture shows the clip pushed fully home.

Last but not least pictures of the plastic trim around the rear of the boot button slot, also showing the other 2 x threaded trim attachments, this can be removed so you dont get overspary all over it if you are colour coding. Just pop out the 6 x clips to remove from the trim -

As for the colour coding you can achieve a good finish with rattle cans, dull the chrome with wet and dry, use acid etch primer followed by top coat and laquer. I used halfords cans and the colour match is spot on, a tip, keep the paint warm with a heat gun etc for the perfect finish. Not great pics but heres an idea what can be achieved, these where taken before any polishing and is sprayed Sapphire Black -

Hope this thread will help people out, i guess im trying to give a little back for all the folks who have put things on here to help others.
    Thanks for checking it out

Wish I had seen this last week lee

Had the chrome strip off to fix boot lock as it had give up the ghost. Ended up snapping all 4 of the black plastic clips trying to pop them off the studs in the boot. Only after flipping the chrome strip over I realised that lifting the strip upwards is the way to pop them off

So am going to pop into my local VX dealer and get some replacements

So for those that need to replace any of the clips I am led to believe that the part number is:-

9177069 CLIP-LOWER MOULDING TO TAILGATE (Hatchback) (Thats for the inner 4 that pop onto the studs in the boot)

Not sure if they are any different for Saloon or Estate

Anyway great HOW-TO lee I'm sure it will come in very handy to others in similar situations

I haven't bought a Vectra (yet!) but is it possible to remove the words off the boot strip? or are they part of the strip? Cheers.

Great how to. I was trying to remove the tailgate chrome strip to wrap it yesterday & stopped short of bending the strip or breaking clips. I knew I'd find the right info here, thanks a million
