    Default Brake light puzzle

Evening folks, looking for some bright ideas. A warning light came up this evening on the information screen saying 'Brake Light'. It happened straight after I'd slammed the tailgate having loaded the shopping. Checked the fuse and it's ok, removed the bulb holder and they also all appear ok. Got the girlfriend to step on the brakes and sure enough both light up. BUT, the left brake light appears to be two bulbs deep whilst the right appears to be only one deep - if you get what I mean. So, I switched on the tail-lights but bizarrely the reverse is true for those - RH side appears to be 2 bulbs deep, left only one.

Confused Any bright ideas what's going on?

My car's an 09 plate Vectra 1.8 petrol.

    Cheers, Mark.

When a brake light fails on a Vectra, the lower tail light takes over the role of tail/brake light.

ie, when everything is ok - from top to bottom

    Indicator
    Tail light / brake light
    Tail light
Fog tail light (drivers side only)
    Reversing light

But when the brake light fails:-

    Indicator
    no light
    Tail light / brake light
Fog tail light (drivers side only)
    Reversing light

Thanks Dave for such a fast response. I've since found lots of other threads talking about the same issue, apologies for going over old ground. I'll have a play tomorrow during daylight - I only checked the right hand cluster tonight, it sounds like it is most likely the left hand instead. I'll switch some bulbs around and see what response I get.

Many thanks again - every issue I've had with the car so far has been resolved through this forum!

    Mark.

Trick as well, is to replace the equivalent bulb on the other side
So if you replace the upper 21W, replace the same on the other side

The other one to watch out for is when a side light goes it will illuminate the indicator.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Same here. No indicator was lit when my front sidelight failed.

It should do, it did on both my signum and Vec, I have also seen locally a few with this lit and there are threads about it on here where people have detailed this.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
