ESP is electronic stability program and is designed to improve safety and vehicle stability by detecting and minimizing skids, it also detects loss of steering control and applies brake force to the front individual wheel to regain control. Its along them lines..

Thanks lee1828.Do you know,if all the Vetras 'c' steering racks have ESP.
Because my steering rack is leaking,i am trying to find what type if rack is fitted to my (04) 2.2 direct elite, and have not had chance to see if the reservoir is at top of r/h wheelarch or at back of engine bay.VX say not sure what rack would be fitted even with chassic no and would have to look to make sure.

Hi Dobs, not many vectras are fitted with ESP, if you lift your bonnet and look down at the steering rack if you can see a white canister attached to the top of the rack (it will be about the centre point of the rack), if it hasnt got one there it will be under the wheel arch. I dont think your car will have ESP but dont quote me on that!

No mate, it will have reservoir if it has ESP or if it doesnt, ESP doesnt work of the reservoir. It will have a resoevoir on top of the rack or under the wheel arch either way. The power steering pump runs of the auxiliary/alternator belt so is attached to the engine. Ive never topped one up with the reservoir under the wheel arch, i have the one on top of the rack and is easy, just remove the cap on the top of the canister.
ESP monitors wheel speed, steering angle and the ABS system.
I really dont think your car will have ESP, poss will have traction control but some dodnt have that either. I think your rack will be standard without ESP. Traction control doesnt have any connection with your rack so that wont affect which rack fits your car.
