Default What colour is your radiator water bottle water? and head gasket.

mine has a pinky water in, is it jus the type of anti freeze used or should we all have the same colour water? And how would you know on the vec c if your head gasket has gone? im just havin a few issues with my mpg and temp guage hardly moving and my radiator fans never come on as car never gets hot enough! so im worried it might be head gasket or summet more serious than jus the stat? thanks in advance.

The pinky colour in your water bottle is antifreeze, rust would be dark brown in colour. It sounds like you have a thermostat issue and its failed on open, hence your gauge not registering and never reaching temperature for the fans to kick in. It doesnt sound like you have a head gasket problem..

so a small mix of oil wouldnt make it pinky? that will be jus the brand of anti freeze colour used? if your head gasket went surely there would be major issues that would be obvious there was a big problem?

If you had oil in your water then it would be floating on the surface of the water in your expansion bottle. Other symptoms of head gasket issues are a cream like substance inside the rocker cover and some cases excess steam from your exhaust due to a blown gasket above a cylinder due to a crack in the head. Yours however sounds like a thermostat issue only..The pinly colour is the colour of the antifreeze..

Yes that is normal, your exhaust will condense when started from cold and will clear when driven for a short time. If it was burning water it would continue. Best way to check, if the white smoke hangs around for a while then its possibly oil, if the white smoke(steam) disappears after a few seconds its just condensation in the exhast when starting from cold. Unless it continues to throw out steam when at running temperature..

try the card test, put a piece of card or similar in front of the rad, Dont block it all off say,, half, then go for your normal drive you should find the temp guage will rise BUT MAKE SURE you keep an eye on the temp guage in traffic, if you think its getting to hot put the heater on full blast, as said lots of people have stats play up on the Vec-C
