When you're only doing urban driving mate you'll never get two similar figures either - there are so many factors, least of all the weight in the car, and so many more that you have to take into account when doing stop start urban driving that you really can't compare the two figures IMO...

ah - that'll make a difference yes. definitely can get an extra couple of mpg by making sure the tyre pressures are correct - or maybe a bit extra mpg by over-inflation but that isn't the best idea.

I wonder whats better for MPG on a hot summers day ? Driving with Air Con switched on and all windows closed... Or, driving with Air Con off and having windows down ?? I believe having windows down whilst driving effects fuel economy too, just curious which is worse, Air Con or Windows..

LOL with the recent price hikes expect to see folks driving around with tyres the size of tractors

I think windows down at high speeds is really bad, like using a sail on a boat.

I'm going for the Aircon as the best option

now thats a good point, looking on tyre calculator site, its quite easy to gear a car up by having BIGGER, tyres,, however,, explain this,,, my mates 1.8vvt,,, he has always moaned about low mpg,, ie,,,,,28 ish, now he seems to drive it ok and its got a bit better after some bosch plugs were fitted,, but still not good, I drove it for a few days and got aprox 5 mpg less than my 1.8,,, now here is the thing,,,, his car is a lot HIGHER geared than mine, at 70 mph mine 3100rpm aprox,, his car 2700rpm at 70,,

Mythbusters recently did a test thing and over inflating tyres by 6% (iirc) did give quite an improvement in fuel economy compared to under inflated by the same amout

I dont understand why people say running low can add problems "apart from the possibility of running out" as the fuel is taken from the base of the tank where water would be and you have a filter?

Has anyone ever tried to add acetone 2500/1 ratio I think, as it is supposed to break down the surface tension and vastly improve MPG, and you dont have to tell me about potential damage as thats why I havn't done it, just wondered if anyone else had.
