Default how to get a lot more MPG,,

To day my fuel light came on as my guage was on the second red mark into the red just as I pulled up to the petrol station, so,, as I had a little trip to do aprox 45 miles I only put 4.546 ltrs in(1 gall) ok so the trip was rural 50/60 mph max, but a lot of stop starts,, when I got back to the petrol station, the fuel light had not come on and the guage was not quite as low as when I put the gallon in, I had reset the trip, it was on 51 miles, so,,,its a weight thing then. so I only put 4 gall in. I wonder how much fuel I have wasted over the years as I used to always fill right up.

Dude - the car weighs a ton and a half. 60 litres of fuel weighs about 48kgs. It's like carrying a small child around with you - it makes next to no difference whatsoever...

A million things effect fuel economy, and the weight in the car really doesn't come in to it until you've filled up the boot with a decent amount of stuff and the suspension is bottomed out... I've always filled up right to the brim and never found any difference between the start and end of a tank - it's just not that big a difference in weight...

Plus running your tank low all the time can lead problems with your car

Dude, not long ago I would have agreed with you 100%, but have tested this several times, the results always show a lot more mpg when I only put up to 4 galls in.

when my red light comes on, if I fill/brim the tank I only get 11 galls in so there is always over 2 gall left in.
