btw, discs & pads are generally cheaper when bought together than purchased separately.

was thinking of buying discs and pads but didn't really think discs would be necessary as the cars only just hit 30,000 miles? at the same time if im going to spend £60 on pads i might as well go the the dealers and spend another £30 and do the discs?

Pads are just as hard as the discs these days and the discs can wear out at a similar rate. Have you measured the discs to make sure they're not down, or getting near their minimum thickness?

I haven't measured the disc as I didn't even think there would be a chance of them wearing out yet-I had a 04 mondeo and did 80000 on the same discs! Went through 3 sets of pads mind! Is there an easy way to measure them or do I need a special tool and what thickness should they be?

Sometimes it's written on the disc somewhere - usually the hub area.

If there is a significant lip on the edge of the discs (> 1 mm) where the pad doesn't contact, that's usually a sign of wear. Other than that you'll need something like micrometer.
