Exclamation Can the egr function be deleted from the ecu?????.

Just dropped my Vectra off at the local VX dealership. As I have recently fitted a new EGR valve,I asked them how much it would cost to delete it's function from the ECU.The girl on reception looked at me as though I was a retard and, with that superior look that ALL service receptionist seem to have, informed me that she had never heard of that one!!.(Nothing new there then!).When I insisted that it could be done, she went to have a word with the Technical manager, who confirmed her statement in that,"in all the years he had been at VX he had never heard of that facility being available".I just said I would pick the car up at 2.0pm.etc.Does anyone have any official or relevant information on this subject available?,I would just love to be able to go back at 2.0pm,and stick it under her smug ugly nose!!!!!. FELIXX.

It can be done, but seeing as most Vauxhall dealers haven't a clue how to get into and adjust fine settings in ecu's, it's normally only done by tuners/remapping companies as part of a remap.

Thank's for that.I had this gut feeling when I asked that they wouldn't know what I was talking about.I'll ring round some of the tuning specialists in the area and see if I can sort something out,I'll probably get the xenon turned on at the same time as I've fitted HID's and the o/s headlight keeps flashing every so often. It's not really a problem, but VX want £70 for doing it!!,(robbing bast***"s springs to mind). FELIXX.

    Red face

Had an Astra in today with EGR problems. My mate at Vauxhalls just pluged it in and made it EGR delete, after i fitted the blanking plate. Im sure it can be done on vectra's?
Have HID's and one of them started to flicker as the trans box got wet. Put it on the heater for a night and no problems since. Make sure that the box isnt touching any metal.

certain petrol models the EGR can be deleted by tech2, but as for the 1.9 diesels afaik its only when a tuner loads up a new map with the EGR value set to 0 can it be done.
Plasma's Tech2 services are now partially open and able to provide services

I know its been turned off in my 2.2 direct, so on petrol it can.. they actually turn them off here, when the cars come in with certain errors.. (and since then it used more petrol than before)

There was a guy on here ages ago who's dealer turned it off because of a huge time delay in getting one to be fitted. It is the only case however that I have ever seen on a CDTi. Maybe they used the TMS connection?

Same here mate. They don't replace them on the 2.2 just blank and tech 2. Your also bang on with the fuel consumption especially in the winter months.

Spoke to a dealer today regarding this and they said no - not with the computers they have anayway. Only the 2.2 and some 1.6's in Astra had the EGR that can be disabled via ECU.

    Looks like a remap then.

You don't even need tech 2 or Opcom on the 2.2. As long as the EGR is physically connected to the loom and the plunger moves when its supposed too then you can blank it no problem. Cost me something like £4 for te VX blanking plate to do mine. Although I'm seriously considering returning it back to stock if the MPG doesn't drastically improve when the weather gets warmer.

With all my experience of manufacturer garages (its limited though!) its just a bunch of kids who rely on fault code readers and whats in books as the limits for what you can do...
