    Default Wheel bolts

Do wheel bolts for steel wheels have a different chamfer from those that fit alloy wheels?

I have just got some vauxhall alloys to replace my steelies and had assumed I could use the same bolts. I've just phoned the dealers to clarify and he could only find one type of wheel bolt listed (£3.60 each ) so said they would be ok to use with either!?
He then tried to flog me locking bolts for £35 and plastic bolt covers for over £2 each!
Not saying the dealer is right just what they said.

No you don't, otherwise people with a steel spare wheel ** would have to carry a 2nd set of bolts before fitting it in the place of an alloy wheel with a flat tyre. Vauxhall wheel bolts fit both Vauxhall steel wheels and alloy wheels.

** For Vauxhall anyway. I know that some Merc's (A class?) have to use separate bolts for the spare wheel - but they're right on top or next to the spare wheel in the boot.

You get those covers from fleabay for a lot cheaper than that, and as for VX locking bolts..............

Thanks for that found a full set of covers on ebay for a tenner. Not going to bother with locking bolts anyway as alloys are only basic 16" so don't reckon they're very desirable to thieves.

Not only the wheels when considering if they'll get nicked. The price of tyres these days could also appeal to a potential thief.
