Default hard, grinding, weird brake pedal

Right have gone to the shops and gave the car some vent but have noticed when i do my brake pedal goes all funny???? Either goes ROCK SOLID! then as u press it when your slowing down it kinda melts back to normal. Or when you press it you get a grinding sensation? like abs but as mine isnt working for someknown reason without anywarning lights. but doing 65mph surely its cant be that? but driving normally it all fine now was going to get it checked soon but has anyone got any ideas? or possible big bill bad news I know its not pads or disks as there are all brand new. Just a little worried as the wife use's it for the school run and wondering if it could be dangerous. Cheers in advance

Think ive found the problem. The pipe that comes from the brake servo to the top right hand side of the engine, looks like it has been snapped off and someone has tryed fixed it with black electrical tape! not good! is this going to be safe to drive until I get a replacement?

I would say anything with brakes is asking for it mate, just my opinion. I wouldn't drive it until it was sorted

not advisable tim if you are involved in an accident a police engineer report will find the fault and your insurance is void, the braking effort is greatly reduced when the servo is inoperative, when you replace hose check that the non return valve is working,

Don't drive the car. You will endanger other road users as well as yourself.

problem solved! the pipe that joins to the clip that goes to the manifold side of the pipe was totally broke off and fixed up with what looked like superglue and then rapped in black tape to cover it up. so whet to fiskins of forfar to get a replacment servo hose. no chance i was told. you can have this instead bit of rubbery pipe so removed end from manifold and removed end from non return valve. replaced with rubbery pipe from fiskins "FREE OF CHARGE" man dealer too! not figured that bit out yet either!!!! attached it to non return valve and manifold with 2 53 pence jubilee clips from local motor factors and the jobs a good unn!!!! WE HAVE BREAKS AGAIN! cheers guys!
