Talking MY12 changes to Insignia - 1.4T petrol anyone?

MY12 changes to Insignia have been published on Vaux website.

1.4T petrol from Astra J / Meriva has been added to the Insignia range as an alternative to the 1.8, the availability of which has been culled.

Vaux are claiming compared to the 1.8 -

    • 28% reduction in CO2 to 129g/km for the hatchback & saloon with a 26.5% reduction for Sports Tourer*1
    • 25% Improved Fuel efficiency: 51.4mpg on combined cycle
    • Lower VED: £0 first year (1.8i 16v VVT, £315) and £90 standard rate (1.8i 16v VVT, £210)
    • Lower Class 1A National Insurance Contributions
    • Significantly reduced BiK from 24% to 15% in 2011/12 Tax Year*3

    • The List Price is £1,025 inc. VAT over the existing 1.8i 16v VVT equivalent car.

Whole host of new bits and deletions - including a new SatNav system, the Navi600 and Navi900, which will be SD Card based and you can finally enter POI's!

The missus Meriva has the 1.4T 140 engine. It's pretty quick in that model - with no turbo lag to speak off- and quicker than the 1.8 vvti she had in the previous Astra. So it will - in all probability - be a slight improvement in the Insignia on the engine it replaces but that is not saying much.

POI on the Sat Nav is long overdue. It shouldn't be too long before accident black spots can be added sourced from the usual sites.

The Sri also loses rear electric windows as standard to go along with the visible exhaust and the 18" alloys removed on previous, 'updates'.

Just wondering, isn't it too heavy car for a 1.4. I mean the weight/engine displacement relation. Althouth Skoda made already.

The 1.4 turbo would probably give more torque than the 1.8vvt

Yep, but I also think that many ppl will think of remapping it and I'm affraid that this could be an exaggeration looking at potential of 1.4

Just had a quick look at the figures for both engines.

    (Based on Insignia figures)
    1.8 VVT - Peak power 140PS @6300rpm ; Peak Torque 175NM @ 3800rpm

    (Based on Astra J figures)
    1.4T - Peak power 140PS @ 4900 - 6000rpm : Peak Torque 200NM @ 1850 - 4900 rpm

Average kerb weight of 1.8 is approx 1600kg. I guess that the 1.4T is probably slightly less.

I hazard a guess the driving experience will be transformed with this engine.

Just need to delete the engine badge trim .

I think this is the way the world is going smaller displacement H.O. Turbo engines, it happened in the last energy crisis and lead to some real barnstorming engines (anyone remeber the Renault Fuego Turbo and Renault 18 Turbo, these were cutting edge at the time with small displacement Turbo engines, and who can forget the giant slaying Saab 99 Turbo from 1979 when everyone was going larger V6 Saab slayed them all with a "puny" 1850 Turbo 8 valve,,,,,,

I am quite intrigued by this 1.4 insignia cant wait to get one on rent as from my experiences with the Golf and Jetta 1.4 TFSi those engines are remarkable to drive for their capacity even at 122PS

Electric rear windows now an option on SRi! Once again Vauxhall are stripping the cars out even more but increasing the prices.

I very much doubt I would have another one now.
