Snapped two Sealey Brake Wind Back Tools today

So - real crappy day! Figured I would get the brakes done - easy enough to do. got the parts and tools out just to be cursing the living daylights out of the wind back tool two hours later!

I used a Sealey VS0282 18 piece kit which came recommended. Within two attempts to turn anything the handle was bending and ten minutes later the bleeping thing just sheared off where the adapter to the pad sits

Aehm, ok, so I may be strong but that strong? Fine, luckily there is another handle in the box, LH mind you, which had the same fate 20 minutes later

Without using any extensions, levers, breaker bars or the likes I basically managed to reduce this kit to scrap in 30 minutes - Not impressed whatsoever!!!

Any thoughts?

u wasnt turning it the wrong way was you? as some are left hand thread and some are right hand, im just talking motors in general, never done a veccy so im sure someone will correct me if im wrong but it would make sence if it was the wrong way as it would push the piston out making it tight enough to snap it.

Turned it clockwise, which would be the correct way AFAIK. Only used the other one out of desperation. I wonder if my caliper is seized

But then again, surely that is unheard of with the high quality car we all have

get your money back on that kit for a start... it is possible for the caliper to be seized, you need to free the piston up, not had to do this myself but i am sure there are some vids onthe net showing what to do.. 2nd hand calipers are plentiful on the bay, it may be easier to change it if its seized, you can buy refurb kits as well..

They should turn back quite easy.

It does sound like the calliper is seized. What are the disc's like?

Sealey tools are normally pretty good. The windback tools are not meant to be strong because winding back should be easy. If it were not, then something was wrong. I imagine it would be very easy to break the tools if you used much force, extensions or not.

When I did mine you could probs turn them with finger and thumb...

Hi hotrod, I had exactly the same happen I could see the bar was bending so stopped at that point. The callipers were seized and would not retract, I had a rubbing and squealing noise on the rears. Don't bother with these refurb kits get fresh callipers mate.

You shouldn't have any problem with winding back!, Turn the bar, adjust the nut, Turn the bar adjust the nut, & so on, If its 'very hard' you have a problem!, I Wash my car regularly & the wheels & calipers have there fair share of water so, You may have a problem.
