    Default F.A.O Bicycle Gurus

I'm going to buy a mountain bike this week and need to ask some advice before I do. I haven't had a bike for a few years and want to get back into it. The inside of my leg is 32 inches, so how big of a frame should I get? The bike has got 27 gears (3/9) and I am wondering what combination of gears is possible without making the chain tangle or come off? I.E. Front gear 1 and rear 9 would put strain on the chain and again for front gear 3 and rear 1 etc etc. I will be using the bike mainly for road use and I will get a front suspension only as the last bike I had was full suspension and it hurt my back at times.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    George

I am 32" inside leg. I brought a Giant xtc 21". 3 or 4 years ago. But I like a large frame. Hard tail.

Friend of mine Just brought a Giant Talon 1. 18" Same height as me. This was the recommend size.

    Giant sizes are 16", 18", 20" now.

What make you going for ?

Looking at getting a GT Aggressor XC2. Halfords are doing a 1/3 off . So would you recommend an 18" frame and just have the seat higher? That way the bike would be a little lighter too.

Thanks very much for the link. I think I will order a 20" frame. As it will be used more on the road, I want a bigger frame. The reviews on this bike are mostly positive. The only negative that keeps coming up is stonechips to the paintwork - , naturally lol.

if i were you i would be going to halfords to sit on the bike and check what size you would need. im 6' 1" with a 32 inside leg and id generall ride a 19" frame if it was a hardtail. ive sat a guys 20" carrera mtb from halfords and it felt way too big.

if you have a halfords nearby (who doesnt?!) id go and pay them a visit before i ordered online.

I've got a bit of weight to lose, so the knobblies will be just fine lol. And they come with Maxxis tyres!
