    Default driveshaft gaiter

well quite an eventful day today not only do i need 3 tyres and a wheel alingment doing also while i was cleaning the brakes i noticed that one of the drive shaft gaiters has a tear in it, its at the gearbox end not the wheel end.
does anyone know how much this is to buy and if its a hard job to replace. as looking at it the drive shaft would need to be removed. (way above my ability)

think they're about 20-25 quid from vx.. the drive shaft does need to come off, you'll need a deep socket for the hub nut(i made one by chopping a socket and welding a bit of scaf tube in between lol), may need a bit of something(1 1/2" strip with holes drilled) to hold hub whilst tightening, star type sockets and a torque wrench that'll do 250nm/185lb/ft.. if you got most of this is a simple job.. if not garage job(2-3hrs).

the gearbox oil will also come out of the gearbox , also the gaiters are approx £9 + vat each not £25

also if you do the inner one you may as well do the outer one as well saves a job later

Don't buy a cheap one. It will still cost the same to fit, and it won't last as long.

i bought one today for my car and it cost 8.57 plus vat and these are guaranteed for two year and they are the thick ones, cant really see any difference to the vaux one to be honest except for the price

i rang my local motorfactors today to ask how much they were and they couldnt find one for my car, they said they could only get me a universal one but didnt recomend it and said i would be best off going to VX.
my local garage quoted me £75 supplied and fitted (VX part) so long as i provide the gearbox oil (i wanted it replaced anyway) so at £5 a litre makes £90 all in. i will probly just do that.
