Default Remapping, fuel economy and EPG valves

I've been looking into getting my vectra 150 remapped. Many sites seem to boast a considerable 20% improvement in fuel econemy. I was wondering if anyone has had it done and I this claim is true. Does it improve your mpg? (depending I supose on wether your new bump in hp doesn't influence your driving ).

Also, a couple of companies say they will reroute round your epg valve thing. What are the plusses for this? I recently had to have a new one fitted so I expect it would save me doing that again, but why is it there in the first place?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

the egr valve is there to get the car through eu laws i believe but i could be wrong, if your going to get it remapped you can completely blank the egr off as people on here have done and it saves you having future problems with it, as for more mpg i dont know

I cannot say i've seen an improvement in fuel economy on my EDS mapped 150 CDTi but considerings its now 190 there is definitely no drop in fuel consumption unless you drive it very hard for prolonged period. I'm happy with the odd blast so not noticeable and will still acheive 55mpg on a run averaging 70 odd mph and 40mpg round town.

It could be said that a well-remapped car runs more efficiently and more fuel-efficiently than a non-remapped one, but that is invariably offset by making use of the extra power and torque and improved acceleration etc. at your disposal, which will in turn sometimes use more fuel than before.

What is clear statistically from what has been said on here over the last few years is that fuel economy may improve marginally, but should not be less than before the remap.

Ok guys, thanks for the replies. So the 20% is a little far fetched but there won't be a drop. Might consider a remap then.

I've never got 55mpg out of my vectra, even new.
