Default just got my first Vectra..! Do these cars have a glowplug Light?

    Hi there, 1st post...!

    Just got a vectra last night a W reg 2000 2.0l DTi Eco-tec engine.

Took a while of turning the starter motor over this morning to start the car. The battery seems good as the starter was turning nice and fast.

There doesnt seem to be any glowplug light coming on on the dash when turn the key, it was -2' this morning so would have expected to see a glowplug light on.

Left it to cool while at work just been out at luch to test it and it struggles a bit to start up again, once it starts its fine.

Thought it might need new plugs but first need to know if a light should come on....?

    Thanks.
    Charlie.

is it orange with a coil on like most other derv cars with a light.....? I defo didnt see one come on if it is...!

So what does this mean if no glow plug light, is the light part of the actual plug circuit or just on a timer as a guide....?

So many questions for my first thread, soz...!

It is orange and a coil symbol. It's part of the circuit and controlled via a relay. Only if the temperature drops below 5C inside the engine, the engine will need pre heated. This is ultimately controlled by the ECU.

ok thanks, because some cars the dash light is just a light on a timer and no-way connected to the plug circuit.

So... the car would have defo been below 5' this morning and no plug light came on so would that indicate a faulty relay or temp sensor...?

Possibly or the light on the dash has blown.

    cheers sparky.

is the eml light up all the time....?

Just wired how the car is not starting well and there is no glowplug light coming on.

next cold morning i'll check the voltage going to plugs to be sure they are getting some.

if they are then i gues it could be leak off pipes maybe or do these engines have a hand fuel priming bulb anywhere....?

    thanks.

What he said. The heater light will come one even if the glow plugs don't work. Sorry I realise we have had our 'wires crossed' there.
