    Default Signum Dilemma

My wife has a 3.2 V6 Signum Elite with 82K on it.

On a trip back from the shops she phoned to say it was making a knocking noise when it started up. I had it towed home and I knew right away it was the big-end bearings.
Put it up on the ramps and removed the sump, and found some shavings so decided as I was this far to remove all 6 sets of big end bearings (piston rod bearings) 5 were perfectly good (she did well with not driving it) but 1 had spun. At this point I expected the crank to be shot too, but after a close inspection and micrometer check it was still good and unmarked.

    So now the dilemma.
She now has a company car Insignia and the Signum is no longer required. We were thinking of selling for £3000 before this.

    So options time;
    1) Fit a new set of big end bearings at £600 to include the main bearing halves we can get to without removing engine and crank.
    2) Fit replacement engine at £800 (if I can find a good one)
    3) Break car. It has a full Irmsher bodykit fitted and hope to get about £1500 for all parts
    4) Sell as it is for £1500

    So any advice/tips greatly appreciated
    Davie

Bad luck mate These things usually go for 100's of 1000's of miles
I'd replace the bearings and keep using it And perhaps sell some Irmscher bits to get some money back

    Thanks guys for the reply's.

Yes we were planning on selling anyway, but it's a lovely car and would have prefered to see it back on the road. So if anyones knows where there's a decent 3.2 V6 engine for sale, I'll look at that too.

Selling as it is, is a good option for me time wise. I'm sure someone would snap it up to repair. I was quoted about £600 for all the bearings from Vauxhall. I'm sure they'll be available for 1/2 that non vauxhall.

Breaking would be a shame, and time consuming.
How much value would be in it????
Elite model fully equiped with the leather, and full Irmscher body kit in silver. Also Irmscher quad exhaust.

    Cheers

Have you asked Vauxhall if the parts are covered by Trade Club? If so, they'll be a lot cheaper.

I often wonder what these cars are worth, I bought mine a month ago (05 same model with Nav, 68k FSH) for £2380 and its mint. Seeing the prices some parts go for I could imagine getting more breaking it for parts. Not that I could like, in love with it already

Once again thanks guys, keep ideas coming.

    Jezzy, prices are trade

parttimer1 and CritchvxD, been having a look on ebay regarding value of parts alone.
Breaking would easily hit the £1500 mark due to all the Irmscher parts with quad exhaust. So selling complete car as is for that amount would do me. Any buyers out there

Need to dig out some photos for an ad.

    Ok bit of an update.

Car is going to be sold as is,
I'll put up an advert on here with some photos and give it a few days, then it's good old ebay.
Failing getting that, it's a replacement engine and a weekend of skint knuckles.
