    Default Ticking Noise 1.8 VVTi

Do any other VVTi owners get a slight ticking noise on idle?

Its speed dependant and sounds a bit like tappets but it does not go away once it's warm.

Seems to go completely if you take the revs past 1600 rpm

    Engine seems fine otherwise

Yer mate I do. When did you have it serviced last? Also you should change the oil and filter on these regular, (I do mine every 4k-6k miles). Nothin to worry about IMO.

Mine does the same, coming from the fuel injector area on mine.

How long does it take for your oil light to go out btw? Mine about 2/3 secs.

    No sign when revving

    Goes out straight away tbh.

Noise is still there if not louder.

car is regularly serviced, the oil is like honey at the moment

i guess it might just be the injectors but i use redex in every tank as well

i also have that problem, sound is more louder when just started in the morning then it goes away. dont think its something to get worried about if the car is running ok, just keep checking your oil level and top up if needed. ....on another note has your car ever gave up a fault code of = p0014??? and if so, what does it mean???

Looking around I see the code as P0014 B Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1).

    Any idea what it means?

Not done the pedal test yet but will try later today.

Mine will give a very slight rattle first thing, normally only when cold (around 5-6c), ticking nose seem to come from the rear of my engine as you look at it from the front, around the injector area. No sign of it when revved.

The oil light stays on for 2/3 secs when starting after a small period of being idle, again going through threads it does seem the norm for a few vvt's, one thread says they tried a few at the garage and they were all the same.

Warranty valid till end of year so will ask when next at vx.
