spacers ?

Would I need spacers, with 8.5x18 wheels on a vec c lowered 30mm with 235/40/18 tyres ?

No, but a small spacer wouldnt look bad on the rears. just make sure you extend the bolts by that much eg 5mm space 32mm bolts. In case you dont know, vx bolts are 27mm thread length

Are spaces a good thing then, if I dont really need them ?
Would spaces in my case just be a look better/wider thing ?

Its will push the wheels out towards the arches more. tbh its a personal thing but will make your track look wider as it alters the offset. just wedge a 5mm bit of wood down the side and see what you think

im contemplating spacers for my stock 17s once its lowered. thinking about 10-15mm but will know more once ive lowered the car.

spacers will just make it look better, but they do have the advantage of giving the car a wider track which will improve handling but on a car like the vectra it will be negligable.
