Try and cycle them a few times if it's a problem. How many miles has your car done? Mine's a bit 'meh' and juddery when it first starts but soon settles down. 200,000 miles on mine.

The old battery in my 2.2 DTi showed 12.2 volts. I would start the car, but it didn't sound 'eager' to start when it was turning over. Sometimes it took a bit of time to start and produced white smoke from the exhaust.

I got 2 battery tests done and both said the old battery was OK. Only the third test at the dealer (£15 if I didn't buy a battery from them, free if I did) said that it needed replacing.

I got a new battery and it turns over faster and starts quicker with no smoke.

Whilst dependent on the temperature an approximate guide to a batteries state of charge is indicated by the voltage:-
    12.8v fully charged
    12.6v 80% charged
    12.2v 50% charged
    11.8v 20% charged
    11.7v 10% charged

At 12.2v I would suggest your battery is well on the way out.
14.2 v is I believe within normal charging range.

7 years is good going for a battery. Mine was nearly 8 years old. It won't hurt to get a new one, and you should find the car is quicker to start - less turning over required.
