Angry Warning if you advertise in Exchange and Mart

Put the missus Corsa onto Exchange and Mart yesterday (web and printed version) and the web version goes live straight away.

Today I have had four phone calls from what appear to be different companies - but all with a remarkably similar opening spiel when you answer the phone.

They ring asking if the car is still for sale. If yes, then they say they are from some car pairing type company and they have buyers ready and waiting (with cash) to buy your car. They give the buyers finance and then they (the company) go off and find the cars for them. All they needed from me was my postcode and they'd send me through the details. It all sounded a bit iffy to me so I said no thanks, I want to deal with the buyers personally. I said if they get their finance from you then fine, but I want to deal with them.

After the second company rang I did a Google on the number and found a reference to them on a website. The conversation didn't get as far as mention of any fees etc. as I told them straight away I wasn't interested - but you can see a couple of people's experiences.

By the third and fourth call I was stopping them at the beginning saying I wasn't interested.

All they obviously do is look at the new ads on E&M and then ring up the seller to offer their 'services'

So just a 'heads up' that if you advertise on E&M expect to get a number of phone calls from these types of companies.

agency callers do not have the advert in front of them, I ask if they are the ones personally buying the car, and they have to say no - and then hang up or have a little go at them if I'm in a mood already.

They tried that with me when I sold the Zafira, they wanted £80 for a match.

I said, find me a buyer and I will give you the £80, they said, Oh no sir, you pay up front then be get a buyer.

I told them to sling there hook.

Had a few more of these calls and generally gave them a quick "No thanks" as soon as I realised who they were. Just had a phone call from another one and I was curious as to what they were actually offering - so I let the conversation carry on. Went something like this.......

Them: Is the car still for sale? (I immediately knew it was one of these agencies)
Me: Yes it is, where did you see it advertised?
    Them: Not sure.
    Me: You're not sure?!
    Them: No
Me: So are you ringing to enquire about buying the car?
Them: (pause as he realises he's going to have to come clean) No, I'm ringing on behalf of xxxx (didn't actually catch the name but it was an agency place) and we have buyers waiting for your car. We just need your postcode to send you their details.
Me: But you haven't actually seen the ad?
    Them: No
Me: So do you know what car is actually for sale?
    Them: Err, no
Me: So if you haven't seen the ad and don't know what car is for sale, how can you have buyers waiting to buy this car?
Them: (long pause as he tries to think of an answer) Click, brrrrr (as they hang up)
    Me:
