What mileage is everyone changing the cambelt on the 16v cdti engine. I think Vauxhall say it should be done at 100,000.

When I buy a new car I change it and then half what Vauxhall say.
I think Vauxhall revised it to 80k but thats still to long in my eyes (I do mine every 40k).
Yep, 100K or 10 years.
Long time for an elastic band.
I done mine at 65K, I'd heard a few had gone at about 70K so did not want to take the risk.
oooppps mines now on 115000
Vauxhall only quoted £297 for complete kit but want £590 including water pump? Does this sound right? Do you think service woman quoted cambelt change then a water pump change lol
or stupid..................don't get it, had cars with hi miles all my life and never had one changed, or one break - if something aint broke why fix it
the truth is vx want £350 to do belt only and won't warranty it past twelve months I believe...............yet I will only do around 8000 miles in that
Nope as the water pump is only about £65 and about an extra 15 minutes to fit it.
The belts themselves would probably last 80-100k, but from my experience it's more likely to be the water pump that seizes causing the failure. Mine failed at approx 65K so I would recommend changing at around 50k, and definitely change the water pump at the same time.
Definitely get the waterpump done too! Mine cost £28 and its the most likely thing to fail with nasty results
