Default RANT TIME people parking across my garage...

    It's doing my head in!

We are the only people on our street with a garage, everyone else parks on the street. Our property used to be a shop until my father-in-law converted it to two maisonettes. The downstairs maisonette has a basement and a garage and we were looking for a property at the time. He knocked 20k off the price so we could buy it. The garage hadnt been done properly when it was first built and the kerb hadnt even been dropped. My father-in-law had to get planning permision to redo the garage and pay nearly £1k to drop the kerb and remove the white parking lines.

The garage could just fit in the Renault megane we had but when we found out we were expecting a baby I bought the vectra. The car was to long to fit in the garage so we park in front of it instead and use the garage for storage. Handy because parking in the area can be a nightmare. For some reason the last few months people have started to park across the garage. It's a pain in the arse because we live on a steep hill and carrying my 7month old baby up the hill in her car seat along with bags and other parafanalia is not fun! Some times I have to do two trips back to the car to get everything. So now I've bought a sign saying 'please keep the garage clear'. It worked for about 2 weeks and now some one has just parked right across it again!

It doesn't help that the white lines for parking is one and a half car lengths long so if one car parks at the top of the space another car trys to get on behind and overhangs the garage and stops us parking infront of it. There is a side lane next to the garage so I can't over hang that. See pics below.

Obviously the locals have sussed that we are no longer using the garage for the car and see it's fair game to block it off. bang out of order! I'd never park over someones garage even if I knew it wasn't being used to keep their car in!

Over hanging the garage and ignoring the sign!

Just inconsiderate, i go out of my way to let the couple across the road (who have a baby) park right outside their house but some people just dont seem to give one...

Is that the culprit in in the background on the left lol?

Contact the police and say they are obstructing your drive. They will contact the owner or remove the car! Might not be good for neighbourly relations but will give them the message!!

I think the best way is to print off a few polite notices and keep them in your car, and everytime you see someone in front of your garage just slip one under the wiper.

Politeness will usually give better results than ranting and raving at people.

I was going to put a sign on their windscreen tonight saying CANT YOU F'N READ THE SIGN?!!! but its raining hard at the mo and they would have just ended up with a mushy bit of soggy paper on the windscreen instead. I'll have to get a laminator!

So many times I've been tempted to let their tyres down but I'm not going to lower myself. I'm better than that (unfortunatly!)

Pain in backside, last time anyone did similar to me I put a cot matress over my bumper and bulldozed them out of the way.
Not sure of the legalities, personally I think ony damage or clamping cars would make them think about it.
