It's doing my head in!
We are the only people on our street with a garage, everyone else parks on the street. Our property used to be a shop until my father-in-law converted it to two maisonettes. The downstairs maisonette has a basement and a garage and we were looking for a property at the time. He knocked 20k off the price so we could buy it. The garage hadnt been done properly when it was first built and the kerb hadnt even been dropped. My father-in-law had to get planning permision to redo the garage and pay nearly £1k to drop the kerb and remove the white parking lines.
The garage could just fit in the Renault megane we had but when we found out we were expecting a baby I bought the vectra. The car was to long to fit in the garage so we park in front of it instead and use the garage for storage. Handy because parking in the area can be a nightmare. For some reason the last few months people have started to park across the garage. It's a pain in the arse because we live on a steep hill and carrying my 7month old baby up the hill in her car seat along with bags and other parafanalia is not fun! Some times I have to do two trips back to the car to get everything. So now I've bought a sign saying 'please keep the garage clear'. It worked for about 2 weeks and now some one has just parked right across it again!
It doesn't help that the white lines for parking is one and a half car lengths long so if one car parks at the top of the space another car trys to get on behind and overhangs the garage and stops us parking infront of it. There is a side lane next to the garage so I can't over hang that. See pics below.
Obviously the locals have sussed that we are no longer using the garage for the car and see it's fair game to block it off. bang out of order! I'd never park over someones garage even if I knew it wasn't being used to keep their car in!
Over hanging the garage and ignoring the sign!
