Default 2.2 DIRECT SRi - to buy or not too buy ??

Newby here folks so please go easy on me. Looking for all you fellow Vectra owners to impart your words of wisdom - I've been driving a 2004 1.9CDTi SRi since new and I'm now considering PX'ing it a local VX garage for a 57 plate 2.2 DIRECT SRi that has only done 21K. Heard that early 2.2 petrol engines had an issue with timing chains snapping - what other pros/cons should I consider before parting with my cash?

Ive had a 2006 2.2 direct sri now for 6 weeks. I gotta say I love it lol. The bad bits so far are all fixable and cheap/free fixes. These are some common faults I know of on the 2.2 direct:
Fuel pressure regulator (vx re-call done free of charge, make sure its been done)
Car steams up (not to bad since changing pollen filter, clean scuttle tray etc. But still steams up when rains etc. Still hunting for problem)
Timing chain tensioner (keep an ear out for the start up rattle on left side of engine, if there is get a new timing chain kit fitted. £500+ dealer, £250-£300 ind garage or benni)
Fuel pump (see if it has a contenental pump or the older siemens one as the older one can play up)

Thats all I know of tbh and out of them I have suffered the fuel regulator and steaming up, which has cost me £8 for a pollen filter.
My advice is to keep it well serviced with gm parts and oil. I will be having an oil change every 6 months and a full dealership service every 20k miles. easy enough to replace air/fuel/pollen filters, spark plugs and oil changes yourself if your not bothered about service stamps lol.

But yeah cracking car and the lump is meant to be reliable and strong. I think its performance is great for size of car and the MPG return is ok for size of car and if kept serviced etc. Tax (£255 year) and insurance not to bad compared to the vxr or the 3.2. However I may be upgrading to the vxr later this year lol.

Hope its help you make up your mind a bit better, I had a diesel before this and I would never go back tbh, going from petrol-diesel-petrol and I didnt realise how much more fun a petrol was. Plus with price of fuel these days it only pays to have a diesel if you do 100+ miles an day lol.
