well i have seen them on watchdog plenty of times and that Anne Robinson tore them a new one.. My missus worked for them for a while and descibed them as cowboys and the worse place she had ever worked...
Make sure you have a land survey done
Check for underground works, etc
Check for future planning that might be approved locally
Check previous land usage
If it had commercial use, check for any chemical contamination or remedial works
I remember seeing one such house that on resale was found to be built on a mine shaft which the first owner had not been made aware of
The second owner bought it for cash, then had the former coal board underpin the house for free
It still couldn't be mortgaged, but having been underpinned made it much easier to resell
I had one and I've never bought a brand new one again!
The snagging list was endless. I was stupid enough to go through with the purchase knowing thing weren't right but as we had to move on a certain date I went ahead with them promising to fix it all! Doh! Doh! and once again Doh!
Sold up in the end. Managed to get out at the right time and made a couple of grand. We have neighbours and friends who are still there and have had to pay thousands to get stuff sorted.
As I learned the hard way buyer beware! Pay the extra for proper surveys etc.
we were looking for a new build a few years ago ..and had a look round a persimmon house ...got to say very poor quality the interior doors were like paperand the fit and finish very bad ..bought a Lovell house in the end very happy with it no probs at all
Well I live in a persimmon home we had it from new 5 years ago. We must be one of the lucky ones lol. We or any of our neighbours have no probs with our homes. We just had the usual movement a year or so after, some minor cracks in plaster on wall/ceiling edges which was repaired straight away for free. They also replaced our boiler free of charge 2 years ago as it was faulty.
All in we are happy with our home, the only bad bits about new builds is soundproofing, the walls are just studded walls and to thin tbh, but you get use to it.
I might not live in a top of the range house and certainly not a top of the range post code, but the ONE thing I like about it is... its detached ... and I love that above everything else.
Play Black Ops at volume till the early hours, drill holes in walls whenever I want to, crash and bang about whenever bliss....
We bought a Persimmon hom four years ago and to say its been built on the cheap is an understatement ! Everything is only just in place and only just about up for the purpose it was intended, several locks have been replaced, doors still dont fit, pipes leaked and even the bath waste was only fixed hand tight so one evening after my wife had her bath the water deposited itself on the dinning room ceiling ! And to cap it all the road and parts of the estate are still not finished after FOUR years GGRRRR
