Default Pulling to the right, then left.. Help!

    All,

Knocked the o/s/f wheel against a kerb during the snowy period a month or so ago. Steering wheel was then at nearly a 'five past one' position and then pulled to the right - it even would slowly climb a camber.

Had the steering wheel centred, tracking and balancing done (wheel wobble at 80MPH had always been an issue!). Steering wheel now in centre and it DID still pull to the right. When I say DID, my local garage took the wheel that took the knock and exchanged it with the n/s/f..guess what..vectra now pulls to the left!. The garage seemed to think that it COULD be a dodgy or now damaged tyre. Cannot see any signs of damage though

Any idea what could be going on?. Any thoughts would help.

Swap it with a rear wheel is it any better?

Yes you may have a buckled wheel or out of shape tyre both are not uncommon.

Yep, will swap it for a rear next weekend or sooner if i get the chance. The front tyres are Good Year NCT,s both of which are the same age and wear. Is there any method of confirming if the wheel is buckled? and assuming it was and i placed it on the back, would that wear the tyre tread down due to the buckle, as opposed to normal milage wear?

Jack it up and spin that wheel can you see the tyre twist at some point or going up and down, Then look at the wheel rim were the weights go does this wobble?

It's easier on a wheel balancer to see a buckled wheel but thats all you can do, putting to the back or spare is eliminating the offending rim/tyre.

You say the knock caused the steering wheel to go to "five past one". Did the garage check out the lower Arm for signs of any damage? Takes a fair whack to knock it out that far. The steering wheel cant move on the steering column as its splined. Sounds like something on the suspension is bent to me.
As Bigtee said get the wheel from the rear swapped over ASAP, at least to rule out the wheel being the issue, if there is a suspension issue its just gonna wear that good NCT away pretty quickly.
