Thumbs down picked my car up and had the rac out already !!

    Not ****** happy at all.

I went and picked up my vectra this morning, looked really nice and had been prepped for sale well.

So i start to drive off and i think "mmm, this feels flat below 2000rpm"

I pulled over and popped the bonnet, checked the swirl bar which seems to be ok.

any way i drove home (53 miles) and was getting around 54mpg @70mph which i thought wasnt too bad.

As i came upto my junction on the motorway i lifted off the gas and the engine management light came on and when i tried to acclerate there was loads of black smoke coming out of the back!!! and no power at all.

I managed to limp it the rest of the way home and called the rac who duly turned up, the chap knew exactly what to do and took a hammer to the egr valve and gave it a good few taps whilst the car was off.

he then got me to turn the car on and hold the revs at 2000rpm whilst he squirted egr spray cleaner into the inlet and you should of seen the amount of crap come out of the back!!!

Once he finished that he told me to go and take it for a "good" run !! which i did and the car felt transformed!!

so all in all not a good start to vectra ownership , ive now got a couple of jobs to do to it now (clean egr and boost valve)

looks really nice and the difference in comfort between this and my old c max is loads better!!

    cheers

    steve

Did you buy it private or from a dealer?

Also did you take it for a test drive before you bought it?

Hi i bought it from a car supermarket in derby.

it came with a 1 month or 1000mile warranty.

i did test drive it and thought it was a bit flat then but presumed that as it had been sat for a while it had tightend up.

anyway wife has been out in it and has phoned me saying its lost power again...........

garage has told me to book it into vauxhall to let them change the egr valve and they will foot the bill.

also the spare key isnt working?? flat battery in it? is it easy to change?

You will have got some paperwork from the RAC, now go back to garage and get them to replace the EGR valve or you want your cash back for this car is not up to the job.

cheers for the replies, ive just been out in the car and yes it feels lethargic below 2000rmp but nowhere near as bad as it did earlier!!

i think i will get the car in vx as if i try and clean the egr and it packs up at a later date then i will have to foot the bill whereas now the garge have said they will pay for the car to be repaired!!

does the key need to be coded by vx if i change the battery??

    cheers

Doing the key get everything ready .... Ie battery out of packet. Open up and change quickly, you'll be fine.

I think 30 seconds or so to do.
