Default Usual EGR Probs - however are they trying to shaft me??!!!

    Hi.

Iv'e developed a problem with my car and found this thread -

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122008

This is exactly the same prob I have. Been to the garage today and they've quoted me this -

    new intake manifold - 203.00
    EGR Valve - 113.00
    EGR Gasket - 2.89
    Manifold Gasket - 13.30
    Throttle body gasket - 2.07
    Cambelt kit - 114.00
    Water pump - 56.50
    Type D Coolant - 30.00
    RTV Sealant - 6.00
Glow Plugs (new set we're fitted less than 9 months ago?) - 52.00
    Labour - 300.00

    Total incl VAT 1071.31!!!!!!!

However they've also thrown in Possible ACC unit - 165.00 for good luck!!

Does this sound right to you or are they trying to pull my pants down???

    Thanks.

tbh I think its a good price - vauxhall will want more than that for the inlet alone.............and once all thats been done you shouldn't have any other probs................£300 for labour for all that is very good IMO

i would guess the swirl bar is off on the inlet?
the egr is not cleanable and is ****ed
the belts need to be done if inlet removed-water pump is a good idea at same time,
    glow plugs-is it sruggling starting?

Timing belt DOES NOT need to be replaced,(unless it is worn etc),as the removal of the inlet manifold can be achieved by locking the pulley in place using a cam case cover bolt.Ask Wizard or John robertson, they did the job recently and posted a superb "How2" about it FELIXX.

Well well well, ...... I was driving back from the garage today (well trying to) and whilst going up a hill that car completely broke down.

Called the AA who came out. The AA bloke 'blanked' the valve of so it just takes in fresh air and the car drives absolutely fine. I told him about the diagnostic check the garage did and the price and he laughed his ******** off. He reckons the EGR valve needs replacing that is all. He reckons the garage are tying to do me over as I mentioned to them that I have a warranty. He's also heard of other people having probs with the said garage.

Taking it for a second opinion on monday to another garage recommended to me. I really hope this is all that needs to be done. I can't afford a massive bill.

If you have a warranty that covers that lot wouldn't it be worth getting it done so you know those parts wont fail in the future - at the end of the day its a cdti 150
