    Default Items for a service on a 1.9 150?

I'm after tapping into some (more) knowledge again guys!

Decided that I'm going to start doing my own service on the car, my Dad finally convinced me.

Just wondering what specific items I need to carry out a service on the car?

Engine oil - looking through the history it has always had 5 30 but not sure how much I'd need?
Transmission oil (manual) - Anything specific and capacity? Seen a good how 2 by Jezzy on here which I'm hoping to use.
    Oil filter??

Just done the pollen filter and it has a K&N fitted so that's ok too.

What about things like new plugs and washers etc??

Sorry about hoiw obvious this may seem to some but I need to start somewhere.

    Cheers

Engine oil - just looked in my Haynes manual and it specifies 4.3 litres including the oil filter. Vauxhall will fill it with 5-30 but some of the cars with higher miles have gone to 10-40. Try and stick with a good quality oil.

Transmission oil - only really needs to be done if the box is a bit notchy. Not a normal service item.

Oil filter - get it from anywhere. It's a cartridge. Take the old one out, put the new one in, fit the new seal with a rub of oil and screw back in. Sorted.

Give the K&N a clean with the proper stuff to do it. No need to worry about glow plugs unless starting is becoming difficult. Make sure the coolant level is good and top up with anti-freeze if necessary.

10K Boost does a good job of blowing all the crap out of the engine. Not a bad idea to do it when it's serviced. About £20 a can in Halfords and dead easy to do. Made a difference in mine when I used it (2.2 DTi).

Giving the EGR a clean is always a good idea too. Can pull performance back a little bit. Pretty easy to do and I think there's a guide in the how 2 section.

    Hope that gets you going!

Change all filters, decent oil (best stick with GM), when doing oil, replace sump plug washer, no need to change plugs unless any issue starting, also a can of 10k boost and some redex helps flush things through

thanks very much for the input, very helpful. Looking forward to doing this when it's due!

Aswell as the EGR clean I'm going to do the boost sensor too, suppose it all helps and you'd hope parts would last longer if they are kept clean.

The DMF is slightly rattling when I press the clutch so I know that will need doing at some point but the gears do feel notchy in 1st and 2nd so I'm fairly sure some new oil would help.

I'll nip down to Vauxhall and get all the stuff together.

It does need the timing belt doing too but I'll get it in the garage for that. I was reading the How 2 on here but i just don't feel upto doing that.

Sounds wise, forgot to mention the boost sensor and Redex Paul mentioned. With the EGR I'd hope so. when you have it off, people tend to fit the Fiat restrictor plates too. Stops the inlet gunking up so much as well as a couple of other things. Regarding the DMF, keep an eye on it, see how quickly it gets worse. There's someone on here that has one that's done god knows how many thousands of miles with a rattle but still going. Timing belt is something I'd get done at a garage though like you said. In theory not that difficult but NOT something to get wrong!

A month or so back I did put some forte treatment in the car and changed the fuel filter so that should be ok. I was surprised at the difference it made.

I'm interested to see how gunked up the boost sensor is. When I bought the car Aug 2010 the chap had only just had a new EGR fitted bit I will still give it a clean as it's done atleast 6k since then.

Ah ok the Forte stuff is good. Only ever seen it on Ebay though. Had a bottle a while ago from my dads mate, worked wonders. No harm in giving it a clean then! Don't spend loads on expensive sprays though, use petrol. Does the job. Just don't immerse it.

I think you'd be ok with 0w-30. As I understand it, just means the oil is thicker when cold than 10w-30. But I'd wait for someone with more experience to come along. Fully synthetic is fine. Regarding the Ebay filter kits, I have never used them. They seem good value but depends on who makes the parts and what the quality is like!
