should be like this!
thanx....the bottom g is missing off mine!!!!!!
and the belt is still on?????? i didnt think the tensioner had enough movement in it to take up that amout of slack. If it helps, the part number for that roller is 55190811
As above its a guide roller & would have thought the belt would be off!, but maybe your lucky get it done & dont run if poss before changing it.
depends if someone has fitted a shorter belt to compensate for it, if they have then it will probably be ok but if you dont know the history of the motor get a pulley and a new belt
ok...got the pulley from vauxhall...then the belt wouldnt fit....and i checked with vauxhall and the local factors and it's the right belt....had to get one 3 cm's longer for it to fit???
the rattle went away for a bit then returned about an hour later....but instead of it being only from tick over to about 1500 rpm its now there on tick over and when the engines under load...ie driving through the gears....you can rev the engine out of gear and there's nothing....its a very metallic sound...almost like a loose heat shield type of noise...but its coming from near the bottom pulley and go's when there's no v belt on...i've got a 7mm shorter v belt to make sure it's not the tensioner hitting itself again.....then i guess the next step is to change the bottom pulley???
If the car is an 08 it should be still just about under warranty is it not?
The way to check a crank damper pulley is put a line across it & the sump/block as shown in the link/pic, run the engine stop/start & check the pulley & line match up again, if so its OK if not then according to the damper manufacturer's recommendations its naf!, they say it should stop in the same place EVERY time!.

well....the pulley definately doesnt stop in the same place as i had to read the part number off the sticker a second time....after a few starts and stops it was at at the bottom and i could read it!
and it would be under warranty if i wasnt a taxi driver (85k on the clock)...although i had a new engine fitted in jan last year...you only get a year warranty and it was up on the 8th...very annoying
my local motor factors have to do a special order so i'll be sorting that out tomoz
