    Default Clay Bar - Info

    Hey all.

I just recieved my Clay Bar from the courier. I opted for the Bilt Hamber "soft" Clay, its the 200g size.

I have watched a lot of videos of 'how to' but im still a little unsure on a few things.

Surely I dont use the whole of this clay bar? From what I have seen I can split this up into 4-5 pieces? - Some use small, some use large bits - Can you advise?

Also, when its been clayed, and the surface is all wet again after the job is finished, what do i do? I have seen some people just use a leather shammy to wipe it over? - is this right?

Do I need to polish it after I have used a clay bar? - I use Autoglym normally.

    Many thanks

Yes,you can use the clay either way, myself use aprox a squashball size piece at a time and remember if you drop it on the floor bin it.
After claying wash again and the rest depends on the paint finish/quality on the car.
If there are swirls or scratches you would need to do some corective work(polish etc) then wax or sealant to protect the work you've just done.
If the paint is ok skip the polish and just wax it.hth

if i am going over car and its going to be an all day affair, i will first jet wash and hand wash first, then use about 30g of clay flattened into a small disk which i keep folding over as i work around car

then i will hand wash for a 2nd time, then either meguiars scratchx it then wax/seal or just wax it

then a few coats of detailing spray wax to get a deeper shine

Cut the bar into 4 pieces and use one piece. One piece will do about 2 to 3 cars. If you drop the piece on the floor throw it in the bin, do not attempt to use it on the car, this is the reason you cut it into 4 pieces and dont use the whole bar.
After you've clayed the car I would recommend you wash the car as per normal. Once washed, dry, and then its better to go through your normal polishing routine SRP followed by EPG or HD Wax etc.
