worrying rattle!!

my 150bhp cdti started making an awful rattle this morning....it's coming from the belt side of the engine so i took off the wheel and cover and had a look.....have took off the aux belt,started her up and its stopped....when i tap the tensioner pulley it rattles a little bit but not as much as i think it should for making all that noise

the bottom pulley seems rock solid....any ideas??

just had another look at its coming from the pulley attatched to the power steering pump...theres an outer ring that moves independently to the wheel with the grooves on....and theyre banging together!

how do i get this wheel off as there's not much clearance and what do i ask for at the motor factors?

the cdti has an electric pump so it wont be that, recheck and point out the area its coming from, there's a diagram here.

sounds very much like ac compressor to me. I think its a complete replacement, pump and all not just the drive pulley.

right....went to a garage this afternoon and they replaced the tensioner....but it still rattles though not quite as much.......but i definately have the guide wheel between the bottom pulley and the air conditioner pump missing......i think the tensioner is just about keeping the belt on the car but is rattling as its very near its maximum length....will put a new one on tomorrow before i fork out for a new bottom pulley
