    Default Clearing the EML light

    Hi folks

I have had my tensioner and auxillery belt changed by the garage but they couldnt clear the fault code as the comms port doesnt have a live to it for some reason and all the fuses are ok. Can I clear the code without a code reader?

    Thanks
    Tony

the code should clear itself after a certain amount of restarts without the fault, if the fault still exists it will not go away though. what fault code was it?

Exactly what Caveman said. It should clear itself after a while unless the fault is still there. If you unplug the battery for 10 minutes then reconnect that'll clear it but you'll need your radio code with being a half CANbus car.

If the fault comes back then take it back to the garage. The chances are there's nothing wrong with your diagnostic plug either, it's just the 2.0 DTi and 2.2 DTi are very, very picky on what they'll talk to. Tech2 or Vaux/OP Com would probably work perfectly fine.

I always thought that the "unplug the battery" thing was a myth which started with the old Cavaliers and hasn't worked for years... It never did for me anyway.

It's right what the guys have said though, a certain number of engine runs without fault will kill the EML anyway. Just start and stop the engine about 10 times and it should disappear

    Thanks for the replies guys,

Re the plug though, my mechanic actually tested the live into the socket and it wasnt "live" i think was what he meant. I guess the only surefire way to test it is if there is anyone near me in newcastle with one of the above testers would be willing to check it for me?

    Thanks
    Tony

Light clears after 10 days, if fault is not present anymore.
