I have no idea, but it brought to mind the old joke, two men meet in mid air, one coming down, one going up. The one coming down asks "know anything about parachutes?" the one going up replies "no, know anything about gas boilers?"
I'd say given the circumstances, the boiler is most likely ok, would need a qualified gas fitter, and if you're renting, landlord's permission.
We've been waiting for a replacement for the antique in our place for 2 years, council may actually change it this year
PS, Wendy says are you fitting it to a house, not the Vectra?............

hi mate, i work for bg. most plumbers/heating engineers dont like fitting 2nd hand boilers. that said i did fit a 2nd hand combi boiler for my dad that was only 2 years old. i personally wouldnt fit a 2nd hand back boiler, and also cant see how said boiler is only 18months old, must be at least 4 years. whats the reasons your wanting to fit a back boiler. rob

    Hi Rob,
already have a back boiler but its old and starting to play up, havenít had any problems with it till now, so thought it would be cheaper to replace.

The boiler we have is about 3-4 years old now but was only 18 months old when we got it, its been kept clean and dry waiting till this one packed up.

ah that makes sense. as far as im aware its not illegal to install a 2nd hand boiler, but not sure if thats still true regarding open flued boilers such as your back boiler. like i say its just getting someone to fit it for you, if it was a more modern room sealed appliance i couldnt see it being a problem getting someone to fit it, but then you have the cost of re siting the boiler to an outside wall. ill have to ask one of the other lads tomorrow what the score is with fitting 2nd hand open flued boilers and let you know.

You can install any boiler you like as long as its safe. (obviously emissions and stuff do come into it!) You would need it professionally fitted but I would think you would need to tell insurance.....

You can fit a 2nd hand boiler with no problems but does have to be installed by a Corgi registered Engineeer and most of them won't touch a 2nd boiler

The problem is that if any gas appliance is not fitted by a registered installer and any problems arise your insurer will not entertain any claim that you make. Additionally, you will not have a certificate of compliance that may cause difficulties when you come to sell the property.

It's one of John Prescott's "we know best schemes", and there is a similar one covering electrical installations.
