Is it the 1.8 or the 1.8 VVT? Depending on how much you want to spend, there's a few roads you could go down. A simple remap, or for the normal 1.8, cams, turbo kits, manifolds, induction kits, quite a long list!

If you went all out on it and went for the Dbilas turbo kit, you'd be looking at about 200 - 220hp. Don't think these can be fitted to the 1.8 VVT engine though. If you can find out the code for you're engine and it's Z18XE, you can go all out on it. The VVT's don't have many if any aftermarket parts.

For the money it will cost to get the bhp worthwhile it will be cheaper buying a 1.9cdti and getting I remapped or a 2.0t petrol. It's really not cost effective on a 1.8 naturally aspirated car. I have spent just under 600 quid on my car and it's went from 150bhp to a smudge over 200bhp for well take of my springs about 450quid

For the same power increase in yours there are 2 routes the naturally aspirated root which will require amongst others: induction kit, high lift cams, ported and polished head, uprated pistons and rings a custom map on your ecu to match the mods with fuel full exhaust system, sports cat etc the list will go on to get any where near a 50bhp increase

The other route is forced induction by a turbo charger or supercharger both costing easily over a grand to do as you will need different exhaust manifold for the turbo fuelling etc etc it's a expensive job but you could see over 200bhp down this route after updating con rods head gasket etc etc

As for already Turbod cars such as the 1.9cdti or 2.0t petrol you can get them remapped 200-500 quid and easily see 50bhp or even more with other mods

Up to you mate but IMHO not worth the hassle

New exhaust , k&n filter , air box mod , re-map - you might get an extra 20bhp
I got 143bhp on rolling road last time (before any mods)
I have done first 3 mods above, so figures will be interesting from next RR in Feb.

Some examples of what can really be done if you put your money into it:

1.8 on individual throttle bodies and standalone management

1.8 turbo with well over 240hp

Excuse the fact they're Corsa's. The 1.8 engine is also in the Vectra.

Fuel for thought eh. These guys have spent a fair whack on them though but it's what they love doing.
