Sounds like that is why the previous owner disposed of it
The 3.0 V6 CDTI will accelerate right up to 125mph and is physically noticeable
Above 125mph and it struggles against the wind resistance as the drag coefficient becomes higher than the available power (and this is why the petrol engines reach the higher speeds)
Love my 3.0 Signum Elite.Loads of power plus the V6 grunt and into the 40s on fuel. Mine has the auto box and I find it a good match with the V6 engine.
Do it
i have the 3.0 cdti sri, with a remap and eibach/bilstien suspension, the only thing i would have done different is to have found an elite for all the toys, then done my mods, other than the lack of extras and not being able to install them, apart from that the car is a great machine
Its all down to the working principle and design of the modern diesel engine, the diesel engine produces its greatest power curve [torque] from idle through the mid range of its max. engine RPM. The modern light weight diesel engine as used in cars and small commercials vehicles as a low max. RPM normally around 4,000 > 4,500 when compared to its petrol equivalant of 6,000 > 7,000, because of this a higher gearing in the final drive is required with diesel engine vehicles to achieve a reasonable top road speed. The diesel engine power curve falls of gradually as it reaches its max. engine RPM
just do it, mine pulls strong upto 140 , it had new fuel pump 4 months after i bought it, felt good before but what a differance after. mid 30s mpg around town and long mway runs loaded 48/52. its now on 105,000 . great car...
