    Default Gearbox fluid change

    Hi guys,

Can anyone confirm how many litres of oil i need to do a gearbox oil change on a 2006 55 plate 2.2i direct with 6 speed box?

I was just going to get the oil from VX as they wanted £8 a litre which is fairly priced and would imagine is best for the car. (Unless others recommend another fluid?)

Do you need to buy any new washers etc? Think ill get it done elsewhere unless VX dont want an unreasonable amount (spoke to a complete retard on the phone that asked me if i wanted to complete the entire 'pipe'...thought it best not to ask them lol)

Reason for change is that 2nd and 3rd are a bit notchy whilst the other gears are silky smooth

2.4 litres you will need, I used Castrol smx-s and then also some molislip as well. Very easy job to do - took me about 45 mins and that is including taking battery box out and putting it back in - you wont need to do that. Also there is a how 2 in the how2 section .

2.4 litres IF you have the F40, if you have some other box then it's a different amount.

If you look at this site http://www.opel-infos.de/getriebe/f40.html you will se that the F40 gearbox should have 2,2 liter oil. I have hear the oil amount is reduce from what it was in the begining.

Unless someone has an accurate answer it might be worth getting in touch with VX and finding out or measuring how much comes out when you drain and put the same amount back in. My F32 box took 1.9 litres. Used the Castrol stuff recommended in here with a tube of Molyslip. What a difference, feels much smoother now.

the correct amount is 3.2 litres but vx introduced a field remedy if the gearbox is notchy between 1st and 2nd gear they said to reduce the amount to 2.4 litres which i did to mine but it hasnt really helped but then its only notchy 1st thing in the morning 1st couple of gear changes and then fine after
